Requesting items

There are four paths for requesting resources:

CategoryExplanation
1. Books held by UQUse the Request button at the top of the catalogue record. The Library will borrow them on your behalf and post them to you.
2. Print journal articles held by UQUse the Request article link on the righthand side of the catalogue record. The articles will be made available to you online.
3. Items not held by UQ to place requests (document delivery)
4. Not sure what I wantGet the Library to find some suitable resources. Email your request to your librarian.
 

1. Requesting books held by UQ

1. Search the catalogue for the book title

2. From the catalogue record, click on the Request button:

3. Identify yourself by entering your UQ username and UQ password.

4. Pickup location - select External and Remote Service.

5. Click on A list of all the items the Library has of this title will appear.

6. If a copy is available for requesting, the message in the STATUS column will be either:

6. Select the item to request by clicking its radio button

7. Click at the bottom of the list

Your request for [title of item] was successful
Your request will be delivered to External and Remote Service when it is available

Do not request more than one copy of the same title. Additional requests will be cancelled once the first request is filled.

8. Click on Return to record to get back to the catalogue record.

9. The item will be delivered to you via the mail. Please keep your Semester address in my.SI-net up-to-date.

The Library will pay postage to your home address and you must pay the return mail costs.

2. Print journal articles held by UQ

1. Search the catalogue for the journal title

2. From the catalogue record, click on the Request article link:

Request this item

3. Fill in the form

4. Enter your UQ username and password

5. Click on Submit this request

To comply with the Copyright Act, supplying your password signifies that you accept the copyright declaration on the request.


3. Requesting items not held by UQ Library (Document Delivery)

What can I request?
  • Books, journal articles, conference papers, etc, not held by UQ Library
  •  
  • Books and multimedia published in the last 12 months must be ordered for UQ Library's collection. Contact your librarian.
  •  
  • Must be related to your research or studies
Cost
  • Free, except for accelerated delivery and postage to return book loans
  •  
  • Note that each request costs the Library at least $15 plus postage

How long does it take?Depends on item being requested and the source of supply
How will I receive items?
  • Copies of articles will be made available online. You will be notified by email.

Get it at UQ Library linkWithin databases, you will come across Get it at UQ Library link. If the article is not available in fulltext, you will be presented with a list of options, including a link to the Catalogue and Document Delivery.

How much information should I provide?

Please provide as much detail as possible.

  • Mandatory
  • If you do not know the title, type "unknown"
Appears in journal
  • Mandatory
  • Enter the name of the journal your article appears in, if it is not already there
  • If you only have an abbreviated title, enter exactly as it has been cited
Location/Call no.
  • Use when requesting copies of journal articles held by UQ
  • Otherwise leave blank
Special instructions
  • Instructions such as: specific edition required; plates to be included
  • Indicate acceptance of any extra charges for accelerated delivery

How long does it take?

The time taken to supply an item depends on many variables including the accuracy and fullness of the details you supply, and the time spent in transit from the supplier to UQ. All requests are processed as quickly as possible and suppliers are chosen for their reliability and speedy supply.

  • Rush books can take up to 2 days to arrive
  • Cost: copies - $14.00; books - $24.00 (includes GST)
Express - 2 hour service
(journal articles only)
  • The item or a negative response is sent within 2 hours of receiving the request
  • Cost - $27.00 (includes GST)

Pay by mail
  • Bank cheque or money order from the Post Office
