 UQ/Mater McAuley Library | |
The UQ/Mater McAuley Library is one of the 13 branch libraries of the University of Queensland and is jointly funded by the University and the Mater Misericordiae Health Services. It provides resources and services to support the clinical teaching, learning and research needs of staff and students in the Faculty of Health Sciences and the staff of the hospitals at the Mater site. The UQ/Mater McAuley Library is located on the ground floor of Aubigny Place, Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Raymond Terrace, South Brisbane. The UQ/Mater McAuley Library was established in 1998 when the Mater Medical Library and the Mater Nursing Library were amalgamated.
The Library badges its services as the University of Queensland Library indicating its unique combination of real and virtual information resources, physical facilities and cyberspace and service delivery in person and via the internet. Electronic information - via computers - is close at hand, as are the staff, who can be found at the information/loans desk.
The UQ/Mater McAuley Library provides information and research assistance; loans; a variety of study spaces; computer access, an eZone; and training services.
The UQ/Mater McAuley Library supports the clinical teaching and research of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the staff of the hospitals located on the Mater Campus and associated research institutes.
Its collections are complemented by the collections at the Biological Sciences Library, two hospital libraries, the Rural Clinical Division Library Service and the Dentistry Library:

The UQ/Mater McAuley Library is located at Mater Hospital, Raymond Terrace, South Brisbane. Mater Hospital is adjacent to the Mater Hill busway station of the South East Busway, and is a five-minute walk from Southbank Railway Station. The main entrance to the Library is on the ground floor of Aubigny Place.
Access is through the front and rear doors off Aubigny Place. On Saturday access is through the rear door only.

All services and facilities are located on one level of the Library. This level contains the return chute, combined loans and information desk, main computer area with networked printers, the eZone with 12 workstations, reference and video collections, book collection and the journal collections, one group study room, new book and periodical display area, internal telephone, photocopier and the staff work area. The computers can be used for access to the library catalogue, databases and the internet, word-processing, email and computer-assisted learning packages. There are a variety of study areas including a quiet talking area, group study room and carrels.

The book returns chute is located at the rear of the Library. During opening hours all items are able to be returned at the loans desk.
The UQ/Mater McAuley Library provides 22 computers for accessing the Library website including the catalogue, databases, and the internet. Email facilities are also available.
A display area is available near the entrance to the Library. Displays and exhibitions are used to promote Library and Hospital activities as well as displays on topical health issues.
There are individual and group study areas available in the Library. Bookings for the group room can be made at the Loans Desk or by phoning 3163 1689.
Over 6,600 books and 300 current journal subscriptions are held in the UQ/Mater McAuley Library. The strengths of the Library include paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, nursing, surgery and medicine.

The UQ/Mater McAuley Library houses the Classics of Surgery Collection - a collection of historical surgery books donated by the Neely family in memory of the late Professor Mervyn Neely.
University of Queensland staff and students may suggest items to be added to the Library's collection.
Schools and Centres may also contact their Liaison Librarian, to make a suggestion for purchase.
New print material is displayed in the Recently Received Books and Journals area of the UQ/Mater McAuley Library.

The Library is wheelchair accessible via the rear entrance off Aubigny Place.
Library staff are always ready to provide any additional assistance.

Enquiries about loans, problems with library records and requests for items held at another campus library can be made at the Loans Desk. Held items and items requested from the warehouse or other libraries are also held at the loans desk.
Lost property is held for two weeks at the Loans Desk and then is given to Mater Security.

The UQ/Mater McAuley Library provides copying facilities and network printing.
All copying is subject to copyright restrictions.
A University of Queensland student or staff card or a Unicard is required to operate the photocopiers.
There is an automatic card dispensing machine where copy cards can be purchased and value added to existing cards. There is no change available in the Library.

Television programs useful for teaching, learning and research are copied and placed into the Library's collection. The Library also works closely with the Central Video Replay Service (CVRS).
